BIRTH FAQ

Why should I hire a birth photographer?

Birth is a whirlwind: a wonderful and intense whirlwind. Many parents find that after giving birth, they only have a few concrete memories of their experience. Birth photography allows families to see and remember all the big and small moments of their journey. The tenderness of your partner, the intensity in your face, the beauty in the struggle to hold on when everything inside of you wants to give up. And, of course, those first miraculous moments when you finally meet your baby.

This is extremly emotional for most, There is something so powerful about reliving your birth experience. Having professional birth photographs can help give those memories more shape and power.

Does any birth space NOT allow birth photography?

I photograph births at hospitals, birth centers, and home births. Most hospitals in the Triad area will even allow me to photograph c-sections. You do not need to ask your provider if they are comfortable with birth photography - this is your body, your story, and all birthing locations allow photography. If you are having a c-section, we will need to confirm with the hospital that they allow me to be in there with you.

When do you arrive?

I will only arrive when my mamas are in active labor. If your care provider is doing cervical checks - I usually like to be with you from 7-8 centimeters onward. If you are not being checked, I come when you have an active pattern of contractions. I will be in communication before and during your labor to ensure that I come at just the right time. But ultimately: the call is yours to make. If you want me there, I will come!

How long will you stay after birth?

I can stay 1 hour postpartum. If you are interested in further coverage (arrival of siblings, grandparents, etc...I can always add that to your package).

What happens if you miss the birth?

Birth can be a wild ride! I promise that I will make every effort to arrive with enough time to capture your full story, but in the unlikely event I do miss your birth, I still aim to tell your story. I will stay as long as I need to get the same amount of images you would have received if you had a longer labor (and I will even come back the next day if we need more images).

Can we get together to meet first?

I’m happy to meet in person if you’d like, or we can schedule a time to talk on the phone. I want to be a safe space for you so that you feel comfortable with me being apart of your birth.
